Anthurium Warocqueanum 'Green Zafire'
A named clone selection of the Queen Anthurium — Anthurium warocqueanum, the Colombian cloud forest endemic already considered by most serious collectors to represent the benchmark of the velvet pendant anthurium group — distinguished from the broader species by its specific coloration and refined texture. Where warocqueanum selections span a range from lighter green to near-black, the 'Green Zafire' clone is recognized for a rich, jewel-toned emerald-green leaf coloration of particular clarity and depth — the name referencing sapphire, the gemstone, for the quality and brilliance of the foliar tone rather than any blue coloration — combined with a velvet surface of exceptional refinement and the brilliant white venation characteristic of the species at its finest.
-
Light: Bright but genuinely soft indirect light — the dark velvet surface is sensitive to bleaching under harsh exposure, and the deepest emerald coloration develops under consistent gentle indirect light rather than high-intensity conditions.
-
Soil: Very open, chunky epiphytic mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir with excellent drainage and aeration; waterlogging is the primary cultivation failure with this species.
-
Temperature/Humidity: Cool to warm temperatures between 60-78°F with meaningful day-to-night differential; high humidity of 70-80%+ is non-negotiable. This montane species appreciates cooler conditions than most velvet anthuriums.
-
Watering: Keep consistently but lightly moist — never waterlogged, never fully dry. Consistency is more important than any specific schedule; fluctuations in moisture stress this species more than stable slightly suboptimal conditions.
-
Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during active growth; supplement with calcium and magnesium. Dilute to half strength — sensitive to fertilizer salt buildup. Reduce in winter.
